    @Eric
    Hi Eric, Thanks for your so many and good suggestions.
    I must read it carefully and merge as much as useful things into Ubuntu Tweak in the future’s release.
    Thanks again.

  2. Lutfi says:

    Many good themes for Ubuntu ready on PPA here. I think is good if you put on 3rd party software source:

    http://francois.vogelweith.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=18&Itemid=23

    Also for WinFF (http://www.winff.org) for multimedia conversion format.

    And SMPLayer (http://smplayer.sf.net) for multimedia player.

    O yeah. What about apt-cacher? Any easy way to change every line on sources.list or sources.list.d using apt-cacher server?

  3. UTweak Newbie says:

    Glorious tool – thanks a lot!

    Tooltips giving a few more details for the respective settings would be most useful.

    PS: Under System > Nautilus, “privilege” is misspelled.

  4. Eric says:

    Oh i forgot ,

    We need a real tool that can mount ISO, NRG , …
    I suggest AcetoneISO

    http://www.getdeb.net/release.php?id=4256

    There is also “gmountiso” but it is really basic, it can only mount .iso.

    If you want something that basic use a script :
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87369
    or
    http://rob.pectol.com/myscripts/iso-mounter.sh.txt

    I forgot playonlinux : http://playonlinux.com

    A great idea is to create a “Desktop profile”, and i suggest also to create suggested profile : for performance/usability, usability/design, “high profile”, and “custom profile”.

    I suggested a lot of thing :d

    One more time thank you for Ubuntu Tweak !

  5. Amarpreet says:

    Add the ability to configure and install “powertweaks” to keep the Ubuntu Systems at peak performance! :)

  6. Eric says:

    Hello Tualatrix how are you ?

    You cannot imagine what “tualatrix” means in french :d

    Nevermind !

    I worked on the “Desktop Xml Optimisation” or if you prefer the ” Desktop Xml Tweak” :
    You can find my updated script here :

    http://eric.chaudy.free.fr/wordpress/wp-content/Ubuntu_Tweak.zip

    They all work now.

    I created “_global-optimisation” (and home optimisation).
    They working fine and no problem after running but
    It is Buggy : i mean, the bash script create wrong tmp directory (because there are spaces in the name directories).
    This is Still in beta.

    The xfce tweak i told you :
    apt://gtk2-engines-xfce
    apt://xfwm4-themes
    (then choose a xfce4 theme)
    And if we want to read benchmark between different gtk-engines :
    http://gianvito.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/gtk-engines-benchmarks-whats-the-fastest/4/

    As you can see there are other gtk-engines (allready in canonical repository).

    So this is a good tweak, for ubuntu tweak.

    DO you know that gnome can change automatically wallpaper with a xml file ? This is a tweak with no extra software.
    You can see how it work here :
    http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/All+Day+Long+(Animated+Wallpaper)?content=83443

    A small tool to choose wallpaper and when they appears is great idea.

    An other tweak : I think it could be usefull a gnome terminal configured like that:
    Ctrl + Tab : open a new tab
    Ctrl + C : Copy
    Ctrl + V : Paste

  10. Clay Smalley says:

    Many of the third-party sources available for /etc/apt/sources.list are Launchpad PPAs. One problem is that sometimes someone has already manually set a source in the list, but Ubuntu Tweak does not recognize it. Here’s why:

    http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu
    is the same thing as
    http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ppa/ubuntu
    but Tweak only recognizes one of them. This is true of most Launchpad PPAs. It would be nice if Tweak could recognize either one.

  11. TualatriX says:

    @Clay Smalley
    Thanks.
    I’ve update the sources to the new style(the below one).

  12. herkik says:

    Hi. The Application adder don’t work in linux Mint 7 Gloria.

  13. Clay Smalley says:

    Also, with the Third-Party sources, it might be good to say which ones contain proprietary software, and warn the first-time user about them. Or maybe this is already implemented, I really don’t remember.

  14. VangelistX says:

    Please, add support for Linux Mint 7 Gloria (main edition). After “update” Ubuntu 9.04 to Linux Mint some sections in Ubuntu Tweak don’t work. I’m using the latest version of UbuntuTweak from PPA: Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.7.2.

    My system is recognized as Linux Mint 7 Gloria main, whereas it is Ubuntu with some Mint packages installed from the mint repo.

  15. Sloshy says:

    Add the pidgin and correct compiz PPAs.

    Pidgin: the ppa information is located here: http://pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/

    Compiz: exactly the same as what you have now, but an added /ppa in between /compiz and /ubuntu.

    Also, if it does not already do this, adding the pgp keys for the repos as well would be great so I don’t have to add them myself.

  16. Sloshy says:

    By the way, here’s the ppa information for Mupen64Plus, currently the most functional n64 emulator for linux:

    https://launchpad.net/~bojo42/+archive/ppa/

  17. Clay Smalley says:

    Make a CLI subroutine that does all this stuff and release it under the LGPL.

    Maybe that’s just my pipe dream…

  18. TualatriX says:

    @Sloshy
    Thanks, I will add pidgin to the next version.

    @Clay Smalley
    Hmm, I have no plan to make a separated subroutine of Ubuntu Tweak.

  19. tibasic says:

    Will the Alpha of Google Chrome for Linux be added to the 3rd Party Software Packages?

  20. tibasic says:

    Can you also display the extensions on the File Type Manager?

    +———–+————+————+
    |File Type |Extension |Support App |
    +———–+————+————+
    |Ogg Audio | .oga |Movie Player|
    |Ogg Video | .ogv |Movie Player|

    Also would it be possible to add mime types… for example to add .cmg extensions to be supported by klik?

  21. Dingu says:

    Nice work !. It would be better if it is ported to qt , so that this wonderful app can be used by kUbuntu users too.

  22. Clay Smalley says:

    Try not to put the default icon in /usr/share/pixmaps. If you can make separate icons of different sizes (and preferably a scalable one too), then it would be better to put them in the appropriate subdirectories of /usr/share/icons/hicolor. That way, other themes can make their own icons for this great application.

  23. Anyone have a mono 2.4.2.1 PPA that could be added to Ubuntu Tweak ?

  24. zappete says:

    Hi!! My first comment here. Thanks a lot for Ubuntu Tweak, it is SO useful! :)

    I’d suggest to add the “blur type” key to the windows section (gtk-window-decorator can use the blur plugin of compiz), the gconf key is

    /apps/gwd/blur_type

    possible values: none all titlebar

    At least for me, this was disabled by default, which does not make much sense if you enable blur and transparent decorations!

    Thanks again!! :)

  25. TheBootroo says:

    could you add some ppa :
    - inkscape 0.47
    - blender 0.50
    - synapse
    - qt (last version with sdk and qt creator)
    - get deb
    - playdeb

    and some fonctions :
    - configure grub/grub2 in graphically way
    - a tool to get missing keys : we paste key given in synaptic message, and unbuntu tweak download it and add it to synaptic
    - a tool to force mounting of corrupted ntfs volumes
    - a tool to configure html boby of gnome clock applet (in graphical way for exemple with two bounded lists and up/down buttons to select and order day, month, month number, week number, seconds, hours, years …) and then change is color using is html notation ( color=#xxxxxx )
    - add giver and qtcreator in programs list
    - a simple way to configure deb-alternatives
    …..

    solve definitly python import errors (maybe in rewritting ubuntu-tweak in C++/qt : i could help you)

  26. zerothis says:

    Easy access to the hosts file would be nice. You know, the file that lets you reroute all traffic from spammer.net to 0.0.0.0 so it will not only not show anything from spammer.net, but won’t even let spammer.net into your bandwidth from any application.

  27. david says:

    añadir el repositorio de VUZE

  28. Cushie says:

    Please add instruction to remove installation (uninstall ugh!)

  29. Julian says:

    AWESOME!!! thank you for this wonderfull app. ^^

  30. coskibum says:

    First off thank you very much for your wonderful app.

    May I suggest that you add additional information in the computer tab. It would be great if we could see detailed info along the lines of CPUID.com

    Again thank you very much for all your hard work!

  31. SCkyzO says:

    Hi. Congratulation for this wonderfull app

    i suggest :
    Add launchpad spicebird (fork of thunderbird)
    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/spicebird/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
    deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/spicebird/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

    i would like to know when a package is available for x64 in your “.deb store” :)

    add lauchpad guake

  32. TualatriX says:

    @tibasic
    The Google Chrome for Linux 3rd source will be added in the next version.
    About the file type manager, I will try to see if it can be improved.

    @Andrew Tierney
    Mono PPA will be added in Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.9.

    @zappete
    I don’t see any effects after setting the value: all or titlebar.
    could you paste some screenshots?

    @TheBootroo
    I only find a Qt ppa, it will be added Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.9.
    And some of your function can be implemented soon.

    @zerothis
    Add “System Config file editor” to my TODO list.

    @coskibum
    The idea is cool. Consider to do in the future.

    @SCkyzO
    It will added to the next version. Thanks.

  33. zappete says:

    Tualatrix, as requested, here are the screens:

    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/998584/without_blur.png
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/998584/with_blur.png

    Of course you need the compiz “blur” plugin activated, with “alpha blur” switched on (just tested).

  34. TualatriX says:

    @zappete
    Thanks. I got it. I will try to implement this feature.

  35. zappete says:

    Thanks to you!! :)

  36. Ubuntu Tweak is extremely handy and should be included in Ubuntu in my opinion. I published a small review here: http://ardchoille42.blogspot.com/2009/09/review-ubuntu-tweak.html

    Thank you for this wonderful app :-)

  37. Alpimarc says:

    Thanks for this nice soft.

    What about giving the way to use config files to add features?
    For example, adding a file (with the good format) could add some sources or apps to install?
    By this way, it could be easier to use ubuntu-tweak as a personalized post-install soft.

  38. Xhacker says:

    Real nice app! It would be better if it has a feature to config “grub.cfg”, change boot sequence.

    And maybe another feature to config default input method, instead of im-switch.

    Thanks!

  39. Ondra says:

    PPA for Anjuta – the famous GNOME IDE

    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jhs.schmid/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
    deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/jhs.schmid/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

    Signing key: 1024R/689C6DA5

  40. TualatriX says:

    @Xhacker
    It’s a good idea, but currently I will not work this. So in the future I will try to implement.

    @Ondra
    Great, this PPA will be useful, to add at next version.

  41. Joe says:

    Include “Auto Installer”, “Profiles” or something that would remember what we did with the fresh installed ubuntu (what we added or removed or tweaked, etc.) and would allowed us to save those changes and automatically re-apply them on another fresh install…
    (generate some sort of install script???)

  42. shingeri says:

    Ubuntu tweak is the tool that nowdays is just really required on Ubuntu machines.

    i do miss 2 options. The option to restart X. In the previous version of Ubuntu you did do it by holding CTRL+ALT+Backspace but the removed it in jaunty and i think also in the future releases of Ubuntu.

    http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-enable-ctrl-alt-backspace-in-ubuntu-jaunty.html

    It would be kind of cool that you only have to activated it by using a check-box.

    the 2nd thing is the daily Ubuntu update notification
    http://reformedmusings.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/recovering-daily-update-notifications-in-ubuntu-904-jaunty/

    Also by using a check-box you could apply it immediately

  43. FC Truter says:

    SOFA Statistics is a nice program to include in the install and perhaps also the 3rd party PPA section

  44. Pingback: My PC Tweaks - Video Course On PC Optimization. | 7Wins.eu

  45. Ripps says:

    I don’t know what qualifies to get into your third-party repo list, but I supply ppa’s for git builds gmpc and mpd on launchpad. They are shared fairly often within the mpd irc community and wanted to know if you’d share them as well. I also supply a stable gmpc ppa that allows ubuntuers to install the latest version from debian sid, instead of git.

    gmpc-trunk:
    https://edge.launchpad.net/~gmpc-trunk/+archive/ppa
    mpd-trunk:
    https://edge.launchpad.net/~gmpc-trunk/+archive/mpd-trunk
    gmpc-stable:
    https://edge.launchpad.net/~gmpc-trunk/+archive/gmpc-stable

  46. Lanch says:

    Hi, since this program is aimed at beginners I would like to see in the “Nautilus” section an option to clear shell history for obvious privacy reason, much like “history -c” does on Bash (but better since with that program “~/.bash_history” still survives with its content intact).
