A quick fix release: Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.4.1
May 4th, 2010 | by TualatriX |The last Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.4 doesn’t work under the Xfce and KDE, so this is mainly a bug-fixed release for people who use Xubuntu, Kubuntu.
Overview changes:
- Improve the Update Manager, the Select button has been removed
- Make it possible to upgrade source in other locales, some languages may still not work because of broken translations.
- Enable the Login Settings for Xfce desktop
Bugs Fixed:
- LP: #572558 ubuntu tweak crashes on start up with Error: unsupported locale setting
- LP: #572248 Ubuntu Tweak Crashes on Startup: KeyError: ‘desktop’
- LP: #573091 Login Setting Crashed with no exits background pixbuf
- LP: #571391 error loading Login Settings
Here’s the screenshot of Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.4.1 that runs under Xubuntu. Now you can tweak the Login Screen(GDM) under the Xfce Desktop Environment.
Remove the Select Button in Update Manager, now the interface is simpler.

I’d like to set up a command-line script to sync my Ubuntu Tweak settings between machines. Is there a way to do this ??

@Andy
That’s a very interesting idea. I hope this becomes a reality soon.
Cheers

Can you please add a setting option for the mouse to “snap to” the default menu buttons in Gnome’s gui, similar to the mouse option that windows has. Many people would like to see this implemented.
I would think this would be trivial programming.
Thank you in advance if someone can do this!

I was thinking that a real nice addition to ubuntu tweak would be a SSD section to add tweaks for Netbooks that use SSD

Just used Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.4 to change the computer name (as I’d mistakenly used a wrong one during a fresh install of Lucid). Result: no app using gksu would work – at all. This meant no Update-Manager et al. Luckily I know enough to use a terminal and issue sudo update-manager so that it won’t need to call gksu to perform an update. Still, that’s a serious bug I reckon. If changing the computer name cripples gksu then the feature should be fixed or dropped from Ubuntu Tweak.

I really enjoy the easy way to change from left to right in “Window bottom layout”, this works so perfectly. I wish below subject could be added to fix the following issue.

Thanks for nice work,

I have installed 0.5.4.1 on ubuntu 10.04 and after pressing the Sync button on the Application Center window a message shows “Last synced: 7 weeks ago”. The message appears on the Source Center window but shows “Last synced: 2 days ago” after pressing the Sync button. Is there something that I should be doing to “Sync” the “Tweak”??

I love Andy’s sync idea – if this happens, please make it a user-friendly option, maybe comp. to Compiz settings import/export.
One thing that does not work for me with this latest release (in Lucid) is changing standard folder paths: I can select alternative paths, but nothing changes in the folder links displayed either in the Places menu or in Nautilus… any quick fix for that?

Is there a place where to report Ubuntu-Tweak bugs or problems, or is this blog the place to do so?
