Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.3 released: more powerful window button control

These days, I’ve heard a lot of arguments about the new design of the window control of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.

Some people like buttons on the left, and some like the right side.

I think  the important thing is: how user can change it.

So that’s what Ubuntu Tweak does.

It was 0.5.1 when Ubuntu Tweak supports arrange the window titlebar layout.

In order to make it much more easier to let user switch the place, I improved this feature in Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.3. Here’s what it looks like.

First, you can easily switch from right to left by just one click, it will take effect immediately.

The switch from left to right is the same.

When you need more customization, click the “Custom”, then you can arrange them freely.

If you don’t need some control buttons, such as “menu”, you can uncheck it.

How do you think of this improvement?

Now you can download Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.3 from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-tweak/0.5.x/0.5.3, or update through the source.

Enjoy!

It’s impossible to move the title away from the centre and no items other than the title can be placed in the centre.

It would be nice to have 3 separate ‘boxes’ for left, centre and right aligned items.

Can not synchronize from source center through a proxy server

I can visit the http://ubuntu-tweak.com/source/, but cant get the new source

I doubt if the sync server was blocked by GFW ?

btw: I used the education network in china

How about something that allows you to choose which side you want your desktop icons to be aligned. I’ve found tons of topics on Ubuntu Forums of people asking if they can make their desktop icons be aligned to the right, like on Mac, and I’m interested too.

Thomas, I can’t get the sync to work through a corporate proxy either. I think it is a tweak deficiency not a GFW issue.

I’m not sure whether they decided to go with using the SI or IEC standard for the units in nautilus for the 10.04 release since they went back and forth so many times, but I do know that there is no option to change it. Would this be something you may consider adding to Ubuntu Tweak? Thanks for the great work!

Awesome! I think there should also be a “remove mono” feature. Many users (myself included) don’t want Microsoft’s patent-trap-masquerading-as-free-software tainting their systems.

  28. airtonix says:

    Thomas.B :
Nautilus only supports automatically arranging icons on the desktop starting from the top left corner.

If you want to have it start from other corners with other directions (from bottom right to bottom left then towards the top ) you’ll need to download the sources of nautilus and edit it yourself.
