Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.4 released!
December 15th, 2008 | by TualatriX |It is totaly one month since the last major release(0.4.2), now Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.4 is released with many improvements!
This version continue to take many improvements to you. As usual, I will use the screenshots to show what changes in this version:
Compositing Option to Metacity
Metacity is the default Window Manager in the GNOME Desktop environment.By default, Compiz is enabled to provide the eye-candy and the 3D desktop experience.
But some users may not enjoy with Compiz, or some reason can’t trun on the virtual effects.
You can try Compositing Metacity!
Just check the option of “Enable the Metacity’s Compositing feature”, you will enter a simple but useful Compositing environment provided by Metacity.
Some people will like this.
Nautilus Thumbnails Configure
Do you often browse pictures on your computer?
If so, do you know all the pictures will be copyed to a thumbnials to the user folder?
If you don’t know, open your nautilus and type “~/.thumbnails/normal” in the address bar. “WoW! thousonds of picture thumbnials is here!”
To protect the privacy or to save the disk space, you may not want these thumbnails to be too large or stay too long time.
So let Ubuntu Tweak to help you, how long will the thumbnails live, how much disk space will the thumbnails take, it will all under your control.
More useful scripts
At the version, Ubuntu Tweak contains more userful scripts. They will make your daily work more effectively.
File Type Manager
The last is “File Type Manager”!
Do you want a unified interface to edit the file types? Now File Type Manager will provide a interface to do this.
All the common used types can be set here, you can modify the file types to what you want by once.
Oh, I forget to say that more third-party sources is opened to intrepid, so just enjoy with the new applications with your Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid.

Dude, your app is the single biggest lifesaver I have found in years!!! The amount of pain it has saved me when configuring people I have “switched” from Windows is incredible!!!! God bless you, for saving my sanity!!! Please keep up the good work, people like you write programs that make Linux more accessible to average users, and that helps everyone. Good Job, and Merry Christmas!!!!!

man i would have to repeat what everybody said before, ubuntu-tweak is one of my favorite programs, keep up the good work, god bless u!
and i got one thing to say: when i am installing ubuntu-tweak, i get this WARNING message: Untrusted packages could compromise your system’s security.
You should only proceed with the installation if you are certain that
this is what you want to do.
Why?
By Lee Jarratt on Dec 16, 2008 | Reply
This dialogue box appears because some users to Ubuntu Tweak may be sceptical of installing software from third-party repositories, it is possible that someone can slip malware into a repo but it is really really really unlikely. It’s just a warning, nothing to worry about

This is a great application. I have one feature that I’d love to see. A mount manager would be outstanding and I don’t believe I have seen it in your application. This is the one place I believe the naysayers are right about Linux when it comes to new converts or average users. Home servers and the like are becoming common now and its too much to ask someone to modify fstab. The “Connect to Server” and virtual filesystem idea doesn’t work because those mounts won’t show up in all applications. Off the top of my head I don’t believe it would be a difficult script and I don’t know why its not standard.

Excellent app as I always say.
1. How about making the left pane a tree with arrows and with smaller icons like the size of the ones in nautilus left pane?
2. I know I said this before but it would be nice to backup the list of installed programs so I don’t lose time looking for them when I reinstall.
Keep up with the excellent work.
